About GIF Compressor
This GIF compressor reduces animated GIF file size locally in your browser, so files never leave your device. It offers three strategies you can combine: reducing the palette color count (256 down to 64, 32 or 16 colors via error-diffusion dithering), lowering the frame rate (dropping interval frames, e.g. halving the frame count), and scaling the dimensions. A live before-and-after size comparison helps you pick the right parameters. Because GIF uses LZW compression, cutting colors and frames raises the dictionary hit rate and shrinks files considerably. A useful pointing order: when you simply want smaller files, scaling down dimensions usually looks better than sacrificing quality, while color reduction affects gradients most and lower frame rates are the most noticeable to the eye. As a rule, 128 colors is nearly invisible, 32 colors shows mild banding, and halved frame rates feel a bit choppy. Start with gentle settings and layer stronger ones only until you reach an acceptable size.
How to Use

FAQ
Is the quality loss significant?
It depends on parameters. Reducing to 128 colors is nearly imperceptible; 32 colors causes slight banding; lower frame rates make animation slightly choppy. Try medium settings first.
Which method is least noticeable?
Scaling down dimensions is usually the mildest, then dropping to 128 colors. Frame-rate cuts and 16-color palettes are more visible, so prefer the gentle options first.
Can all three methods be used together?
Yes. Color reduction, frame-rate lowering and dimension scaling can be combined for maximum compression, but quality loss is also greatest - balance is needed.
Can I compress to a target size?
The tool does not directly support target-size compression, but by adjusting color count, frame rate and dimensions you can approach the target. Before-and-after sizes are shown.
Will compression cause stuttering?
Lowering frame rate reduces frame count, making animation slightly choppy, but total duration stays the same if per-frame delay is unchanged. Keep frame rate above half the original.
Are files uploaded?
No. All compression runs locally in your browser via Canvas and gif.js, so files never leave your device.
