What format is inside the QR code?
It uses the WIFI: scheme that mainstream phone cameras support, like WIFI:T:WPA;S:name;P:password;; where T is the security type, S the SSID, and P the password — the trailing semicolons are required.
Is my password sent online?
No. The code is drawn entirely in your browser on a Canvas and the password never leaves your machine. Note the QR itself contains the password in clear text, so print and post it only within trusted areas.
Which security types are supported?
WPA/WPA2 (the most common — use WPA), WEP, and open networks with no password (choose nopass). WPA3 devices usually still read a code marked WPA.
What if the SSID or password has special characters?
Semicolons, commas, colons, and backslashes must be backslash-escaped or parsing fails. This tool handles the escaping automatically, so just type the raw values.
Do both iPhone and Android scan it?
The camera on iOS 11+ and mainstream Android cameras or scanner apps natively support this format; point at the code and a connect prompt appears with no extra app needed.
