FAQ
Why start at 49152 by default?
The 49152-65535 range is IANA's dynamic/private range, also used by the OS for ephemeral ports. It is the least likely to clash with registered services.
Is the generated port guaranteed free?
No. A browser cannot probe system port usage; the tool only produces a candidate. Verify with netstat or lsof before binding.
Can it avoid well-known ports?
Yes. It excludes 0-1023 by default, and you can set a custom minimum to steer clear of 22, 80, 443, and other system services.
What is special about ports below 1024?
On Unix-like systems, binding to ports under 1024 usually requires root, so dev environments generally avoid them.
